Well, this is awkward...
Because I consider myself both a feminist and a nerd.
This is not to deny that sexist and homophobic people are part of the “nerd culture”, but I feel like this is throwing the baby out with the bathwater to paint the whole of “nerd” culture as sexist and homophobic. I guess Joss Whedon, Tamora Pierce, Robin McKinley, Anne McCaffrey, K. Cox, and Wundergeek don’t count.
“nerd culture” is so incredibly sexist and homophobic that i have no idea why anyone would choose to identify as a nerd in the year 2012 unless they were sexist and homophobic - but of course, they won’t come out and say it, they’ll just write you a whole fucking essay…
